  • Participated in the Graduate-level Research in Industrial Projects for Students (GRIPS) program as a graduate student. I was the project manager of our team which was sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric Company. Over the course of eight weeks, my team of four others and I created a novel, hand-crafted feature extraction method designed for 3d point cloud classification tasks, called MsGT. Our method combined existing ideas, such as multi-scale hierarchical feature extraction, with new mathematics: in particular, a notion of Gaussian and mean curvature defined on discrete point clouds explicitly.  Our work was successful enough to continue development after the end of the program.
